This was a really fun painting to create, one of those that you feel a sense of loss or sadness as soon as it is completed. This is my whimsical, raven’s eye version of downtown Flagstaff. I like to think of it as the best of past, present and potential futures. Included is the OLD Joe’s Place, Monsoons (where we saw so many awesome bands in our early 20’s!), the Clock Tower, a version of Heritage Square, more murals and community gardens, and a flowing, full Rio de Flag. This Winter of 2023, it was SO cool to have an actual river flowing through our town! (Did you know that the city has big plans to concrete the entire Rio corridor?) Other details that you might not immediately notice are the pictographs from Viet Springs or the fossils that are in the Kaibab Limestone, the rock layer that Flagstaff sits on. Our sweet town, like so many things in this world, is changing quickly. It’s fun to remember all the growing up we did here, the tight knit supportive community that still thrives here, and all of the positive potential futures that we can be a part of to make happen. BLE!
