The “Pollinator Pathway” paintings, are the original renderings that I conceptualized for the “Pollinator Pathways Mural Project”. Each original painting measures only 12×12 inches. I used the authentic, low-tech, old school grid method to transfer and enlarge these images into a 125 square foot mural that resides in the Heritage Habitat Garden at Marshall Magnet Elementary School. The project was a collaboration between me, the Reggio Group at MMES, Flagstaff Cooperative Preschool, Flagstaff Community Foundation and Terra BIRDS. The project from conception to completion took nearly a year. Every step engaged students and teachers on multiple levels including hands on art activities, planting and maintaining the Marshall habitat garden, science education and understanding the critical role pollinators play in our ecosystem. The mural catalogs all major life zones in Arizona, 17 residential and migrating pollinators and over 30 species of native trees, shrubs, wildflower and cacti. The project was successful in creating awareness and inspiring action to help communities make choices that protect pollinator pathways and habitat.
Upon completion of the Mural, over 300 students and community members delighted in a “Pollinator Pathway Parade.” Colorfully dressed participants marched from Wheeler Park and culminated at Marshall School for a dedication and acknowledgment ceremony, guest speakers, live music and Taiko drumming. Now, the mural serves, hopefully for generations to come, as a teaching and inspirational tool. All photos courtesy Nancy Taylor and John Fareio.

They’re fabulous, Erica. I would love to have been there for the procession and “unveiling,” as such. A remarkable and beautiful achievement.
