“Bija” is a Sanskrit word that translates to “seed”. Do not think of a literal “seed” but more like a seed of an idea or thought that gets planted and gains momentum. This painting was inspired soon after a multi-day exploration of Cedar Mesa and its drainages in Southern Utah. The flower is the Sego Lily or Mariposa Lily which happens to be the Utah state flower! This painting also came at a time when I was focused on moving my art forward into the world and myself out of a not so happy personal situation. Here is a little meditation that I wrote to help…may it bring you seeds of inspiration as well!
I plant my dream seeds with care and intention,
knowing that it will take time and attention.
I must be clear in my vision and make it my mission
to bring this dream from seed to fruition.
Everyday I stay true to my path and my purpose,
with diligence and patience I persist and practice.
I may stumble and fall and there will be rocks in my road,
but that won’t deter me from the seeds that I’ve sowed.
And one fine day I will be rewarded for my effort
and my seeds will bloom like the rare lily of the desert.
