This romantic night scene is inspired by the steep Limestone Walls of Marble Canyon and their shadows in the moonlight. I am transported to my boat, where we are tied up for the night, camp is quiet and there’s only the sound of the river underneath my head. From my warm sleeping bag I ponder the stars and drift off with the song lyrics rolling through my head…..”There were so many fewer questions when stars were still just the holes to heaven.” I think that is one reason why people are so attracted to and fulfilled by the Grand Canyon river life and experience. It is tribal, it is simple, it reminds us of a time long forgotten when we used to just sit around the fire and tell stories under the stars.
