This was a special commissioned piece for “Geo Dave”, as the guides loved to call him. Dave and his family had been on a couple of river trips with me and decided that they needed their very own painting. (How wonderful!) His area of geologic expertise happens to be the granite intrusions within the schist, some of the oldest exposed rock in the world, dating at 1.8 BILLION years old. The Upper Granite Gorge in Grand Canyon is probably one of the finest examples of this phenomena on the planet. Here, I feature the Intrusive Zoroaster Granite, the Vishnu Schist, the Great Unconformity, the massive cliff of Red Wall Limestone and Zoroaster Temple. It’s a geologist’s wonderland!
